SOME ASPECTS OF NUTRITIONAL AND PRO-HEALTH VALUES OF CEREAL PRODUCTS

Summary
The aim of this study was to assess the nutritional value and health-promoting cereal
products intended for consumption purposes. Cereal products: various kinds of breads, cereal,
cereal flakes, pasta, flour, processed preparations, etc., are a valuable resource, essential for
human health nutrients. These components are necessary for the proper functioning of the
body and are an important source of biologically active substances, such as antioxidants,
vitamins, minerals and dietary fiber. That are beneficial to the health of consumers and help
combat related disorders such as cardiovascular disease, cancer, diabetes, obesity, etc.
Therefore, a nutrition experts recommend that the daily intake of cereal products by healthy
adults stood at 250–600 g, which is 5 to 11 servings, depending on the size of the daily energy
intake and dietary habits. In Poland, however it is recommended to consume at least 5 portions
of cereal in the day.
