Estimation and comparison of antioxidant properties of Humulus lupulus l. preparations

Summary
Hop (Humulus lupulus L.) is mainly used in the brewing industry and less in medicine and cosmetics. This well-known raw herbal material is a component of many pharmacological agents soothing and strengthening the body. Preparations of herbal are one of the most widespread products and their application is very diverse. Total content of phenolic compounds and the antioxidant properties depends not only on the herb, but also on the type of preparation. This work describes results of experimental study on total phenolics content as well as antiradical activity of hop extracts, infusions and essential oil. The obtained data showed that the type of preparation strongly effect the total phenolic content and antioxidant properties measured by ferric reducing antioxidant power method and DPPH method.
