ANTIMICROBIAL PROPERTIES OF WET WIPES MODIFIED BY SURFACTANTS AND LACTIC ACID

DOI: 10.19202/j.cs.2016.02.12

Key words:

antimicrobial activity, wet wipes, surfactants, lactic acid.

Summary
In the studies described in this paper we attempted to modify wipes and to determine their biocidal properties. To the modification of wipes we have used a mixtures of lactic acid and few surfactants belonging to the groups of quaternary ammonium salts and betaines.
In order to evaluate antimicrobial activity of wet wipes diffusion methods were applied. The investigation was conducted against both gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. The results indicate that the wipes modified with surfactants and lactic acid may be a useful element to maintain bacteriological purity of solid surfaces as well as the skin of hands.
