Quality of traditional and regional food in consumers’ opinion

Introduction: Regional and traditional food is becoming increasingly popular among
consumers. Growing consumer awareness affects primarily on their purchasing decisions.
Customers reach for fresh products of high quality. Objective: An attempt to define the quality attributes of regional and traditional food and
of what the quality means to its consumers. The term takes the buyers of such products, as
well as listing the reasons to purchase this type of food.
Material and methods: the study method of questionnaires was conducted among
150 deliberately selected consumers, living in Pomeranian region. The questions posed in the
questionnaire focused on the frequency of purchase of regional products and the feelings about
the quality of these products.
Results and conclusions: the analysis of the study results shows that the interest in regional
and traditional food is growing. Conscious consumers opt for food of good quality.
Undoubtedly an important element that determines the choice of this type of food is origin of
these goods. The buyers often decide to purchase directly from manufacturers, which greatly
reduces the regional food supply chain and positively affects the freshness and quality of food.
